New Large Desert Rose From Nursery

So, I received my new large Desert Rose live and Barefoot in shipping.from the Nursery. I got it out of the box immediately and when I stood it up to lookout it before potting it. it started losing most of its leaves and flowers. All dried up. So, I potted and put osmocote in for fertilizer. I use good draining succulent soil for Desert roses-no problems with it draining. After potting it I watered it as it was so dry and crinkly. It is slowly getting better. That is the first time I have received a Desert Rose in that condition.Any advice?
